Microsoft PowerPoint
Detailed college-level presentation design notes, 20 projects, examination and separate marking scheme.
Detailed Notes
1. Presentation Concepts
A presentation communicates ideas to an audience through a sequence of slides. PowerPoint supports text, graphics, charts, diagrams, audio and video.
2. Planning
Identify the audience, purpose and key message. Prepare an outline and logical sequence before designing slides.
3. Slides and Layouts
Use suitable layouts for titles, content, comparisons and diagrams. Avoid overcrowding slides.
4. Themes and Slide Master
Themes provide coordinated design. Slide Master controls repeated elements such as logos, fonts and footers across slides.
5. Text and Visuals
Use concise phrases, readable fonts, strong contrast, consistent alignment and adequate white space.
6. SmartArt, Tables and Charts
SmartArt communicates processes and relationships. Tables show precise information. Charts show numerical patterns and trends.
7. Animations and Transitions
Transitions occur between slides while animations affect objects. Use them sparingly so they support rather than distract.
8. Multimedia and Hyperlinks
Audio, video and hyperlinks can enrich presentations. Test multimedia before presenting.
9. Delivery
Use speaker notes and rehearsal. Face the audience, explain rather than read every word and maintain appropriate pacing.
10. Handouts
PowerPoint can print full slides, notes pages, outlines and multi-slide handouts for audience use.
