1. Desktop Publishing
Desktop publishing combines text, graphics and page layout to create professional publications. Publisher is useful for flyers, brochures, newsletters, invitations, certificates and business cards.
2. Planning
Identify the audience, purpose, content, publication size and printing method before designing. Prepare the content and images first.
3. Text Boxes
Text boxes allow precise placement of text. They can be resized, aligned, linked and formatted.
4. Typography
Typography is the arrangement of type. Use readable fonts, a clear hierarchy, suitable sizes and consistent spacing.
5. Graphics and Shapes
Insert, crop, resize, rotate, align and group images and shapes. Maintain image proportions and avoid unnecessary decoration.
6. Design Principles
Alignment creates order; proximity groups related items; contrast creates emphasis; repetition creates consistency; white space prevents clutter.
7. Colour
Use a limited palette and strong contrast. Colours should support the message and preserve readability.
8. Publications
Flyers communicate quickly, brochures provide organized information, business cards provide contact details, newsletters provide regular information and certificates recognize achievement.
9. Printing
Check page size, orientation, margins, images, print settings and preview. Proofread before printing.
